< I am hoping that one of you can suggest a comparable service that provides tick, minute and day charting. >

Herb, I can only address part of your question. Check out this free program (Medved Quote Tracker):

quotetracker.com

This is free charting, portfolio manager, quote tracking and trading program. But you need to have your own data quote source. Well, odds are, you can use quotes data from your broker.

Give it a try, it is very good program, I can't live without it. It will be confusing, to get it to work and to set it up, but once you do...

I have two brokers, Ameritrade for US market and IB for Canadian market. I'm getting live data from both brokers into this Quote Tracker program. I have two portfolios (two brokers) each in each window both running at the same time.

One quick example, so you can see how useful this program is. Yes it support tick charts if your broker (data provider) does. You can set several charts (as many as you want) intra day, say 1 min, 5 min, 15 min, 60 min and Daily and Weekly and you can all tie them together (also level2 and raw data) now, that they are all tied together, all you need to do is click with mouse on the ticker in your portfolio and all charts including Level2 and raw data window will switch and show charts/data for the stock you clicked on. Click on another tickr and all switch to another stock... so simple and effective.

You can draw trend line on the intra day chart and set alert on it, if price cross trend line you will hear about it :)

You can trade with this program. I was last time on Ameritrade web page when I needed data for taxes some 9 months ago. I don't use Ameritrade streamer at all. I'm placing buy/sell orders with this program. I can also see my portfolio and balance at Ameritrade with this program.

There is too much to write it all, you will have to try and find out yourself. It's not perfect, default background color for charts is horrible <g> ugly dark blue, you will have to change that lol But is good enough.

Go to url I posted the link above and look around. Check if your broker is supported. If not, program support several quote data providers you can choose from. Check screen shoots and help. There was forum here on SI for it, but it's gone, since Ameritrade bought this program and requested to stop using forum. (plain stupid!)

Yes, you can use it regardless, that Ameritrade bought it. There are two options, free version with an add banner, or paid version without an add. If you are Ameritrade customer, you get 'paid' version for free.

Anyway, check it out... I love it!

P.s.
just so you can try and play with it, for Canadian Market you can choose free (20 min delayed) quote data from 'GlobeInvestor US, Canada (Delayed)'

The tickers to use are -X for venture (CKG-X) and -T for Toronto (EPM-T), warrant A and B for EPM are EPM.WT.A-T and EPM.WT.B-T

This is a little annoying part, each data provider has it's own ticker format. IB uses VENTURE:CKG for example. And your provider who knows what...

Also you can set market indices (indexes) if your data provider support them...

OK, so much for now. I'm gone a lot, don't see this forum for a week and more at a time, so I may not be here when/if you will have questions.

You can use 50 technical indicators on the charts, like Linear Regression Chanel etc... (I don't get these with paid Stockcharts charting service grrr)

You can annotate charts...
