No more of a mess then any other oil. Bacon grease is a wonderful flavor on popcorn. Just get a layer in the bottom of your pot, add corn, put on high burner, when one pops pull it off and let it sit for one minute then put back on the burner and shake around a bit while it pops until done.

I save all my bacon grease. I'll also use it to make a roux sometimes to add that flavor to the roux.

<< I don't have bacon grease anymore since I started buying Oscar Meyer ready cooked bacon. 20 seconds in the microwave and it's ready.>>

It's only $5 for 8 ounces. What I do is wait for the bacon sale, 2 packages for the price of one. Same $5 but you get 32 ounces. I get my big skillet out and fry it all. Drain and freeze it in Ziplock bags. Same as the ready cooked but maybe a little tastier.
