Patrick aims to make Internet gambling illegal
Even as Governor Deval Patrick seeks to license three resort casinos in Massachusetts, he hopes to clamp down on the explosion in Internet gambling by making it illegal for state residents to place a bet on line. He has proposed jail terms of up to two years and $25,000 fines for violators.

I have changed games again. I am now playing Limit Omaha High Low, eight or better, (LO8) nearly exclusively. I don't want to break my karma by stating results, but let's say I'm doing well. Nearly as important, I am consistently doing well. The reasons for the change:

1. My best game, bar none, is Limit Omaha High. Wouldn't it be nice if somebody else played the game at decent stakes? PartyPoker usually had some traffic in the game, but they are dead to Americans. Even back in Party's salad days, it was tough to get a Limit Omaha High game at the exact stakes you prefer with the right number of players. I do best with full tables of nine or ten. Those just don't occur very often.

2. I do well at Pot Limit Omaha, but the variance in my results is huge. Using some of Rolf Slotboom's advice has not decreased the variance, but it has decreased the amount I lose when I lose. A little like buying options. Still, I need something close to an hourly rate, as this is my income stream we're talking about. I am not bipolar mentally and certainly not fiscally.

3. There is a hole in my Pot Limit Omaha High Low game. I get quartered and sixthed a lot. (For example, I have A2345 for the lock low. But the other guy has the same thing, and a flush with his two side cards. He wins high and we share the low. That sucks) Now, I also get quartered and sixthed a lot in Limit. I just will not lay down a lock hand and, statistically, I am correct to do so. In Limit. In Pot Limit, I will often earn a small amount when I have lock low (or high, though more rarely) and get my half the pot, but lose a huge amount when I am about to get quartered. I think I have made money on the game over time, but not enough to live on.

4. The LO8 game is more popular than the two high games, though not as popular as Pot Limit Omaha Eight. Poker Stars has plenty of LO8 games at all stakes levels and nice 10 player tables. I can also eat my fill at Full Tilt. And even Ultimate Bet has some games now and then. The other sites aren't much on Omaha, in general. For some reason, I seem to be one of the better players at stakes levels that allow me to make my monthly nut. The game is more of a "what's in your hand" game than a "try to bluff" or "read your competition" game.

LO8 also has a lot of action and you can earn frequent player points lickety split, which is why high low is called "lickety split poker." <G> At Poker Stars, that means cash or free tournament entries. Both of which I like very much.
