Stop the wars, plural?

Yes.

<So you not just against Iraq, but against Afghanistan? Against any military anti-terrorist operations?

I am against anything that wastes the lives of Americans and their money. There was some legitimacy about Afghanistan in the beginning.....we were going to get bin Laden. That got dropped along the way and now its just another scam. And what worries me is that Afghanistan is what helped crater the Soviet empire.

In any case the wars aren't where the bulk of the spending is. Since the budget is getting close to balance if we could stop all war spending now it might soon achieve balance. But the problem isn't the current balance, its the future commitments to Social Security and Medicare.

The wars are where any profits we might have go. Democracies aren't designed to fight wars. So when you have two wars and the president chooses to cut taxes...such idiocy.....you run into fiscal problems. SS and Medicare are legitimate responsibilities of a democracy; war isn't except when its to defend the homeland.

Also we can't just stop the spending on the wars. It wouldn't be wise to just give up, when the enemy isn't, and when we are making progress in Iraq. But even if we did decide to do so, it would take quite some time to pull our forces out safely, and there would be ongoing spending for another year or two in Iraq, even if Bush issued the "get out now" order this afternoon.

The current progress being made is fool's gold. There is no winning in Iraq. Use your brain, Tim and disconnect from your ideology and starting thinking independently. Only then will you see what others including me see.
