With zeppelins or blimps you still want power. How would we have made them go?

I suppose today you could use electrical engines, but if you tried to do that in the earlier days of flight you would be restricting your payload a lot as you try to carry large lead-acid batteries to power your engine. Oil based fuels are much better in terms of power per weight.

You could also have a hydrogen engine or fuel cell. Hydrogen is great in terms of power per weight, but it has lower power per volume and a number of other problems.
