I couldn't agree with you more that there is no excuse for his lack of respect for the flag. I don't have any idea why he decided that there isn't any room for it in his public life. Perhaps he thinks expressing his opinions through words would make "that pin" he cast off unnecessary to prove his patriotism........that is basically what he said when asked..........and that people will all nod approvingly and admire his effort to take patriotism in a new direction...........one without symbolism?

I noticed this in the Mission Statement from Punahou link:

Institutional Interdependence
To maintain and extend Punahou's interdependence with, and contributions to Hawai`i and the global community.


I don't know if Obama pledged allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America at the beginning of each school session at Punahou School. And I am ever so eager to understand his position further because I think he's wrong.

I hope someone in the media asks more questions.
