Interesting observation. That may explain why they came back that fast.

When I left Jakarta, Oct. 98, (after the chaos of May-June that year) I told my wife, perhaps I will never come here again -my daughter was born in Bandung, West Java- this place -I said- will deteriorate and we will see a turmoil that will last 20 years.

4 years later I was in S. E. Asia again. Thailand, Malaysia, and the rest came back with a vengeance.

I was back in Jakarta early 2006: Indonesia is still retrograde and backward mostly because they chased away the Chinese that now produce in China what they used to produce in Indonesia before the 97/98 meltdown.

Super Bowl of Condo Insanity
globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com
People are now camping out overnight in line for the privilege of buying condos in Vancouver that are not even built yet. The same thing happened in Florida. Supposedly Vancouver is different. Then again Florida, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Boston were supposed to be different too. They weren't and Vancouver isn't either.
