To: Freedom Fighter who wrote (109884 ) 11/11/2007 6:05:22 PM From: Skeeter Bug Read Replies (2) | Respond to of 132070 >>that would be more effective if they were run privately.<< this is not a valid assumption. how is paying $150k/year for a private driver in iraq more efficient than paying a private $25k? well, it is a very efficient printing press for those who got the no bid contract due to their contacts in government. you know, the kind of private business people you trust so much. private business sure was efficient when ford decided to keep a lethal car on the streets b/c that was cheaper than a recall. unnecessary death occurred b/c of that decision. medicare fraud by private companies is a billion dollar business. corporate leaders lie (call it what it is when you withhold the truth) all the time about their company's prospects. there is no such thing as government, just as there is no such thing as a church. both are comprised of PEOPLE, which makes your contention that it isn't really a people issue somewhat bizarre to me. my friend contracted for the govt andf was sent to a totally unnecessary conference in order to spend the budget allotted to this department. he thought it was bizarre, but he got a free week at the freaking ritz carlton, all food paid for. he knew it was corrupt, but he wasn't going to rock the boat. plus he kinda liked the "vacation" on the government tab since he had never been to new orleans before (this was pre flood). see how insidious selfishness works? it is why nobody speaks out as thousands chomp on an $8 meatball. it is small actions and inactions like this that run up the billion dollar tabs. yesm, the PEOPLE are to blame, after all, they are the ones doing the deeds or rolling over and allowing it to happen.
