This is the worst damage caused by the GWB years.

I completely agree and is the point in Rich's op ed piece that was the most on target. For the US to move back to something like the 70s in these terms, however, is not likely. Perhaps a slow erosion. Or some large scale scandal. On that latter point, it might be some large scale exposure of the degree to which the Bush administration engaged in torture. But I doubt it.

..and what would that accomplish? When they respond their lips are moving, consequently, we know they are lying...

Your choice of an honest and principled candidate is extremely small, and you will not find that individual among the bought and paid for top tier.
