RE: This was Tom Cruise's baby

I think you mean Robert Redford. Tom Cruise is the android that shows up to get paid. Bless him in that respect. I like to get paid too.

A real disaster. With the stars and the budget, the Studio thought they had a winner. This was Tom Cruise's baby, and he is in real trouble over it.

And this notwithstanding the pre-release PR hype for the movie. They flooded the airwaves with ads for the movie in the past two weeks. Probably motivated by having seen the results for bombs like Valley of Elah and Rendition.

I wonder if this happened because they don't like him, or they are distancing themselves from him because of the LFL disaster:

THIS WEEK, the Museum of the Moving Image saluted the 25-year veteran Tom Cruise. The film clips they showed at Cipriani 42 St. proved what a multifaceted leading man and big star Tom is and what a good actor he can be. This was true right from that beginning standout stuff in "Risky Business." And Tom, with a haircut that fell down over his forehead in bangs, seemed to enjoy the outing; at least he was his ever-gracious self.

In spite of some nice intros and remarks by Kenneth Branagh, Tim Robbins, Julianne Moore, Ellen Barkin, Oliver Stone, Brian Glazer and Ron Howard - I do have to ask, where was Dustin Hoffman who won an Oscar playing off of Tom in "Rain Man"? Where were his other giant costars from the past - Paul Newman, Renee Zellweger, Demi Moore, Jack Nicholson, Jamie Foxx, Cuba Gooding Jr., Cameron Diaz, Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Martin Scorsese, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kevin Bacon, Anthony Hopkins, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg? (I can see why Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz were missing; after all, the new Mrs. C., Katie Holmes, was there.)
