That happens to so many of the performers...they get hooked on drugs, or live the fast life and it catches up with them.

John was awesome. After Glen Campbell covered John's Gentle On My Mind John was rich enough to pretty much do whatever he wanted which included being a riverboat captain on the Mississippi River.

John suffered from cancer for over 20 years before succumbing to it. His last work was a few tunes for Oh Brother Where Art Though one of which he won a grammy for.
