The masses of the people, left to the exercise of their own judgment, which naturally always governs them, stand fast and firmly by the Government, in this its life and death struggle for national existence, and are disposed to remain unwavering to the end. But political manager,s having personal ends to accomplish, still persist in endeavoring to mislead, and by keeping alive old party animosities, are doing too much that tends to weaken the earnest popular zeal which the country seeds and must have, in order to secure the success of the war.
