I remember after the Alaska earthquake in the 1960s climbing up to the top of Gonzalez Hill after school to watch for the tsunami, and being somewhat disappointed that it didn't arrive. Victoria is actually not much in danger from tsunamis as they have to come around the corner a bit unless you are out west towards Sooke. When the big 9.0 slippage earthquake comes one of these centuries, a tsunami will be the least of your worries. Apparently the big quake might trigger a big slump in the underwater portion of the Fraser delta which would cause a big wave, but the Gulf Islands would soak it up before it reached Victoria. LC
