The vast majority of US companies do ok, but they would do even better with lower tax rates, and better not just in terms of higher profits, but in terms of being more competitive.

In any case "the vast majority" is rarely the main issue, and isn't the main issue here. The country as a whole can be hurt by the harm caused at the margin.

To the extent companies manage to avoid being harmed its by passing along the cost to others. If they pass it off to their consumers it hurts the corporations competitive position, so who is left to pass it off on? The workers. Higher costs for corporations tend to put downward pressure on wages and benefits for employees.
