He's hilarious and very accessible. He hangs out at the bar before he goes on and is happy to talk to anyone that wants to talk to him. I'm not sure if he still does this but when someone would hand him a magic marker to sign a Les Paul guitar he'd throw the marker as far as he could then take out a chissel and carve his signature into the guitar. The late 20s to early 30s year old guitar player would be cringing while this, at the time 80 something year old guy, was carving into their guitar but I'm sure they were worth a lot more afterwards.

He goofed on me at one of his shows. It was in the mid 90s and inbetween songs he mentioned that he had a boxed set coming out soon. I asked "When?" He answered "It's been in all the newspapers and magazines don't you know how to read?" I just meekly answered "I just listen", then he said so I could hear it but not into the mike "Just kidding".

If there's another senior citizen down front he loves to talk to them about arthritis and other senior ailments inbetween songs. He'll ask whoever sitting directly in front of him to push buttons on his effects box so he doesn't have to bend to do it. If you're ever in the NYC he's definitely worth seeing.
