Just last night at a Legal Services function, a volunteer lawyer spoke of helping a Latino immigrant mother who spoke little English find services for her autistic child. The lawyer was able to persuade a private neurologist to take the child on, and persuaded a private school to accept the child, and so forth. It was very inspiring.

Most people want to do good, they just don't want A and B getting together to decide that C should be the one to do good for D, like it or not.

C is the forgotten man in this story. C is the one who writes the checks and volunteers, gladly, or has his pockets picked, sadly.

I am convinced (I may be wrong) that America's truest source of wealth is our volunteers.
