Sorry to hear that, Ork. I absolutely hate thieves. They'll be lucky to get 10 cents on the dollar for it, and you've got a huge inconvenience and the sense of violation. One of the strongest anger-provoking situations for me, to be sure.

Had my cars broken into twice, and one completely stolen. How much did they get in return for all the hassle they generated for me? I would have preferred they just took the cash from me instead.

Brazilian tough economy specialist is here: Ork during tough economic conditions the thieves need the bare minimum to engage in the profession.

1) The want only the guns
2) Ms. Ork's Jewelry was just a bonus.

Buying a gun is not good: Steal guns and use it for the crime as those stolen guns can easily be sold at the high prices as there are quite a few people eager to buy the bare minimum to engage in further robberies.

I bet Detroit has been putting a bit of pressure on the sale of guns and those tools have been hard to acquire.

In Brazil most of the weapons used in crime are traced to a registered owner who bought them for protection.

If you get new guns, do not let people know you've got a gun. A gun owner will always be a target.

Second, look to the alarm/home security sector. During tough economic conditions this sector does well.

Always take care on the service people. The service people who visited your home. Say the guy who came to set up an ADSL fats Internet, CATV, or done repair jobs.

If tough economic conditions hit them, they know how houses are, how much stuff is there, in short, they know houses from the inside.

Oh but the way: never treat those service people badly. Te usual revenge is to rob you.

Take appropriate steps with police and alarm company, if it was easy once they will come back again.

Wow, followed your posts for some years now, you are a good man and dont deserve that slap in the face. I am sorry. But as long as noone in your family was physically traumatized, injured or worse, that is all it is, a slap in the face and a small monetary loss.

Other than having bikes stolen from the basement of my NYC apartment bldg a couple of yrs ago, my family was robbed 30 yrs ago when I was a kid. They took some CAN$ bills that my father was personally the photo artist of. I think they were cinquantes.

It was a little unnerving, being so young. I dont take kindly these days, admittedly a little nervous of some of the folks around here. I think I'll be getting a mossberg soon, first two rounds non lethal, the rest for the put-down.

I have some work to do on my alarm system too, it's been in the back of my head for months now since I moved out from NYC to a house in Long Island, NY in Jan.

There's gonna be lotsa desperate lower income people here soon, IMO. People that cut the neighbors grass and dont have greencards if ya know what I mean.

If a long, rambling note was left at the crime scene then shades might be a suspect. <g>
