Seems to fit within my definition of a 30-year generational span.

A 10-year span is redundant with decades. For example, the "MTV generation" to me is synonymous with the 80's.

A 20-year span still makes sense, though. Or if you want to be more accurate about it, you can take adjacent 30-year generational spans and overlap them by 5-10 years so that you can sufficiently cover the gaps.

But 40 years is just way too long.
