Gcrispin, AHT looks okay to me for a buy for me. I've got stub positions in related companies, LHO and BEE and am looking to maybe build these positions given their current stock prices.

AHT looks better for its dividend (twice LHO and BEE), although its d/e ratio seems much higher than peers.(I've no idea what, if anything, off-balance sheet liabilities might be with these companies.) I like BEE for some of its upscale properties which are impossible to duplicate: Westin St. Francis (Union Square, S.F.), Hotel Del Coronado (San Diego), others perhaps. To me, these are trophy properties, and not so easy to put a value on them just using revpar, dcf, or other financials. I have held some LHO since 1998:

Looking at these stocks (and FCH, mentioned here in past also), it seems they're in a sector that's currently down. For me, who's considering buying now, what I like to do is buy a package of stocks in such a sector, and that seems to reduce the possible business risk aspect with any one particular company. I'll add AHT to my watch list with a view to picking up some shares if/as I add to BEE or LHO or restart FCH again.

The Chairman of the Board of AHT bought close to 150,000 shares in the open market. This adds to the buying that he previously recorded.

As has been reported AHT does carry a high debt load, but management announced that they are putting 2 billion dollars of properties on the market and expect to have 600 million completed by the end of 08. Of course, they have to find the buyers, but they stated that they plan to be flexible and their plans include single property sales, portfolio sales, and even joint-venture agreements. Meanwhile the shares sell at a low price to ffo ratio of 5.16.
