The 60's were about being free to manifest one's destiny, hedonism or otherwise!

We have one life to live. Why not do whatever you want as long as you do not hurt others and yu contribute to your society?

But if you want an academic explanation: up until the 60's, every place on earth, for all time, people lived according to whatever dogma their fmaily and their society laid on them.

We said, balderdash, we can live our lives however we want.

Nothing more. Simple but profound. Oh we also recognized and proselatized that love is a powerful truth of the universe! And a good goal-lol!

Beats the hell out of Calvinism-lol.

One of the most popular books read during the 60's Gib was Herman Hesse,: Siddartha, Demian, Steppenwolf, Narcisses and Goldman-----.

Hesse was hardly a hedonist. And the demonstrations at Berkely for integration, free speech, womens rights, protests against the viet Nam war and manifest destiny were hardly trite!
