Just bring a blunt and share it with the nice officer.

Groovy.

Actually, after traveling the US in 1969, I had the disturbing realization that the sixties never really happened for 99% of the population. More of a media event. TV starved for content and the (extremely small) counterculture movement provided good fodder, the more outlandish the better.

There were legitimate issues raised early on, but it all got subsumed into the great commercial maw. Head shops, enlightenment books, a new style to wear.

That's why I like "Fear and Loathing 72" so much. The great unmoved were on display in all their vacuous glory.

Perversely, Americans will very shortly need a passport to return to the US driving. I believe that is the case already if you fly. The driving passport criteria changes soon I believe.

They extended the deadline for needing a passport, so you should get through the border with your driver's license without a problem....but if you have under-age kids without both parents in the car, they get excited unless there is a signed permission note (doesn't matter if its your kid/grandkid).

Roads are pretty decent right now - just drove the highway down from Fairbanks.
