In Dec '06 it was 34% (NYT reporting IRS) or 35% (WSJ) and it has been on a steady rise since 1999.

Yes, you are right, that I forgot to state income before taxes in my first post and didn't correct that until now.
Sorry for that, we can all make mistakes.
The good news being, that more attention was paid to the amazing fact, that

A full 35% ('06) and still rising part of the total income taxes are paid by the 1% top bracket incomes!

Those are the bad guys, those who earn more than approx. $350,000 annually but do not pay enough taxes and thus should be taxed even higher according to Ted and his friends.
