While there's some basis for the idea that Earth is a super-organism, his faulty idea that Gaia is caring and sharing. <Lovelock, who is most famous for coming up with the so-called Gaia hypothesis - the idea that the Earth functions as some kind of living super-organism. > Wrong. Gaia is a suicidal maniac and one needs take only a casual glance at nature's horrors to see how nature works. It is cruelty, terror, suffering, panic and pain, ending in being dinner.

Gaia is freezing up and crystallizing and has been doing it for billions of years. Carbon has been systematically removed from the ecosystem by Gaia, which is bent on destroying the lovely habitable place called Earth, turning it into a frozen wasteland.

Human efforts are just a hiccough in the process. We are bringing a bit of carbon back to life, but not much of it and it won't last. Peak People and Peak Oil will be in 2037 and then it's back to cold and colder.
