Well, of course that is an exaggeration and I know that. Now check IDF, a main supplier of telecom equipment to TI (Telecom Italia): dialface.it I know these guys fairly well and do business with them. As opposed to for instance PBS (Pirelli), which has everything manufactured in Taiwan, IDF is all "Made in Italy" with their production site in Bari. Obviously they are government subsidized (Mezza Giorno) to remain competitive with taiwan, Inc. But again, you are right. While other "less legal" activities may be more rewarding down there, their are alternatives and as IDF proves, it's also possible to start and maintain real business in Bari. Not forgetting to mention that the wines close by (Salice di Salentino) and also the oysters are not bad at all ;) Taro
