But doing good works takes money. At many points in history people with good hearts have been less successful at accumulating wealth than those who refused to recognise their obligation to help others who wanted to improve their lot in life. I suspect most of those people have wished their peers would step up to the plate and fulfill their obligation.

Don't forget that history is replete with characters that did not fulfill their obligations under Noblesse Oblige. The famous claimed quote of Marie Antoinette "Let them eat cake" was just the sort of oblivious dismissive comment that exemplify arrogant rich. People like Mother Teresa that actually get recognised for their good works are rare.

What liberals don't seem to know is that life has a a great equalizer that fixes those disparities. It is called Heaven. People who seek to get ahead without regard to the cost to others are not rewarded in the end.
