My opinion is that it is better to go with *official* currencies, which carry a face value. (Otherwise there is little to no 'collector value'.)

And, as far as the other component which goes into determining market value --- precious metal content --- with a widely recognized official government issue, there is much less concern later on about what the true precious metal content actually is. (No need to assay.)
