I think she liked it, not what she expected. The UAE is much more modern (recently built) than many US cities, so the high quality of things surprises people who are expecting a village in the desert with a fly-infested souk and that type of thing like one may find in Casablanca or Cairo. Instead of a fly-infested souk the tourists find themselves in state of the art malls with new, clean movie theatres showing the latest films in Dolby surround sound and some nice Indian man who shows you to your seat with a flashlight and brings you a coke if you like. The lack of culture and history disappoints tourists, but the modernity of the place surprises them.
