"So when you argue with liberals who think existing tax rates are to the left of the Laffer Curve"

Sigh.

It isn't just liberals who "think" that. Most economists hold that opinion and the available evidence indicates that it is the case.

"So when you argue with liberals who think existing tax rates are to the left of the Laffer Curve, consider whether that's actually a good thing or not. Because the last thing you want to see is an inefficient bureaucracy growing by leaps and bounds, funded by maximized tax revenues."

Couldn't agree more. You are now moving into the next level of analysis.

First level is understanding that deficits are the result of spending more than revenue received.

Next level is understanding the relationship between tax rates and tax revenue.

Next level is understanding whether more tax revenue is a good or bad thing (as you point out).

The liberals on this thread haven't yet been able to get past the first level.
