If Hillary doesn't have her stint as First Lady, how would she ever get the New York Senate nomination in the first place? And after that, she has done OK as a senator but nothing in my mind more than dozens of her colleagues. Her entree into being electable as president comes hugely from her surname. That's where I have more respect for Obama working his way up through the Illinois political ranks with an awkward surname and now sitting in the top tier of his party. JMHO.

<if I don't have to think about electability>

I think Obama may more electable too. The people who would not vote for him because of his race are very unlikely to vote for a Democrat anyway.
