I'm fairly familiar with the Nez Perce tribal history, having lived near or on their primary trails for a good part of my life. When ever I think about what happened to them, it makes me sad. We can't justify it as being fair, just accept it as being an irreversible fact. Nothing that we did was much different from what they did to each other throughout their history. All humans have an imperative that creates history, and it is no different for them than it is for the European culture that over ran them. Power and technology arrayed in their favor would have had an entirely different result, not necessarily a better one.
