Yeah, but it is a question of $ thrown at the problem. Don't you think that by throwing lots of them, we could spike production, this year, next, year, or 5 years from now, above any pervious high, thus resetting the Peak Year. Perhaps you see this just as nitpicking (which it is) so in that case I'll agree with you. I certainly don't think the Ghost of Gold & abiotic oil will save us.

However, I have very little understanding of how extensive Geophysicists models of the crust are, so don't know how much more might be found. You would think the plate tectonics would have predicted where most ancient vegetation could lie buried by now. Heck we know roughly where the continents have drifted since plants evolved.
