FDR prepared the country for war without fully letting the people know what he was doing. Remember the opponents then were republican isolationists and america firsters. Post WW1, the american people had no stomach for entering another war in europe. FDR realized how catastrophic a nazi victory would be for the United States and took actions to support the allies little by little. Can i give you a specific lie, he told. Nope i wasnt around then either. And of course the Japanese made it all moot when they attacked us. Of course like today there were the charges that fdr knew about Pearl Harbor in advance.
