Again, protected, but there is a limit of $500,000 for
securities account, and $100,000 for securities account cash.
So, even the
grizzliest bears will likely not celebrate the BK. Here is
the bad news today, maybe that's what stopped the rally.

Most retail brokers have additional umbrella coverage that goes far beyond the 100K SIPC insures. Ameritrade, for example, insures accounts up to 150 Million with "excess" insurance (Lloyds of London I believe).

Of course if the whole world goes up in smoke, then the insurance probably won't be any good but in that case, neither will anything else.
