Reagan didn't try to prevent blacks from getting ahead. Thats just a liberal lie. Who does try to prevent blacks from getting ahead? No. 1 on the list should be the teachers unions and the liberal educational bureaucracy which prevents poor black parents from using vouchers to escape the scandalously poor inner city schools. --------------------------- why did the Dixiecrat Dems jump to the GOP when the Dems came out in support of civil rights? Most Dixiecrat Dems didn't jump to the GOP. KKK recruiter Robert Byrd is the Democratic Senate Majority Leader today. Gore's daddy never became a Republican. Nor did Clinton's mentor, J Wm Fulbright. Richard Russell, Jr. (GA), James Eastland and John Stennis (MS) stayed in the Democratic Party where they had long careers. Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms were the only southern Democratic politicians who became Republicans. Even George Wallace, though he ran as an Independent, never became a Republican. Say if the Republicans are racist, why does the Democratic party have Byrd in such a prominent leadership position? He's used the N-word in recent years and he's given no evidence his views have changed.
