I have nothing against trains. I normally drive when I go to New York, but when I picked up a new car there I took Amtrak.

I'm just against high per passenger mile subsidies, and running routes that don't have a lot of demand.

Then it becomes the chicken and the egg scenario. If the trains are old, slow and inconvenient, then there will be demand. Where the equipment and schedule is more modern, demand is there and worth every penny of the subsidy.
