The author used a common technique, exaggeration for effect.

I think it was in the 6th grade when my english teacher

covered this and also the word that it was known by,

"onomatopoeia" was also learned that day.

Price distortions always come to surface when the going is tough. First agriculture now oil.

No need to battle the messengers. We need to try to get a better understand of those distortions.
