It was one heck of a movie adaptation, I would give the movie a bit of en edge too.

"Don't Stop The Carnival" is a non-war related novel he wrote that is pretty good, about a middle aged guy who buys a resort in the caribbean.

Wouks' "The Winds of War" and the sequel "War and Remembrance" were favorites of mine, and I liked both the books and the movie equally. I thought Mitchum did a pretty good job.

I have a special connection with a feature of the book which I've elaborated on other threads, but don't have time right now. It concerns the ship that Pug was ordered to at the end of the Winds book, and became the captain of in Remembrance.

War and Remembrance

"Winds of War" was the first one. Wouk is fascinated with the Battle of Midway, as I am. His story of "Torpedo Squadron Eight" is meticulous.

Tom Clancy says he has a different take on Midway, and plans to do a book on it. I hope so.
