Sounds to me like your problem with smoke is not so much folks burning fireplaces, but the trash and commercial burning. I'm surprised any locality allows that anymore.

I'd really like to be able to burn leaves just one more time in my lifetime. Used to love that smell. We put our leaves out at the curb in huge piles, and the city comes by to pick them up with a front-end loader and dump truck (or else the wind blows them over to the neighbors').

That is just horrible. I am very surprised that kind of commercial burning is allowed in a neighborhood. And I hope you all get your well water tested on an annual basis?

If alert the NYTs or sick the Sierra Club on him it would probably stop.
