I think a fall in the US standard of living is inevitable, but I really cannot see such a dollar plunge. And that is simply because the US dollar is just like any other currency in the world who are all affected by the same disease. Because the US dollar is the biggest and strongest, it may fall the farthest, but such a scenario would spell the end of the monetary system as we know it, and gold wouldn't be priced at $2000, but more like $20,000.
