That collapsing Chinese ant-farm scheme reminds me of various animal breeding scams in the USA: chinchillas, alligators, ostriches, emus, llamas, alpacas, etc. These get-rich-quick gimmicks appeal to financially unsophisticated rubes, and are often run by former real estate agents and stock brokers who know exactly what they are doing.

BTW, if you're interested I can get you a deal on a rare breeding colony of Mount Susitna golden glacier ants. Only $50K USD! ;>)
