You can argue that in a "trickle-down" economy, not much gets "trickled down," but I would argue that unless the entire economy is strong, you will never be able to afford those safety net social programs that you think will alleviate poverty.

Unless, of course, your goal is to make everyone (except the liberal elite) poor.
