I would be shorting the Bush economy now. Not trying to pump it (and dump it?) Notice gold and oil now at all-time highs, while real estate and stocks are falling. Notice the market down today despite your phony "good news"? We are in a recession and a bear market now, make no mistake.

I visited the biggest mall in my area on Friday. There were lots of people, very few of them with shopping bags, lots of window-shopping and bargain hunting. If you want to believe in Bush's economy though, go out and buy an SUV on credit, they're cheap now. And fill it up with $3.50 Bush gasoline to drive to your mall and buy Bush Chinese toys at 50% off.

Sales are not the same as profits. I saw lots and lots of 50% off signs on Friday. That means retailers are having to practically give stuff away. Maybe good for discount chains but not for retail-price sellers. Also, I would be looking beyond Christmas. Consumers may fork out for the holiday but bad times are ahead because the Bush debts must be paid off, and that's going to take MANY YEARS of belt-tightening. In the meantime, people are going to be very thrifty and cautious, and taxes must go up. The party and "war president" years are over. But it hasn't been paid for yet.
