I am talking about pragmatism. We don't have to pay down the entire debt tomorrow. We just have to consistently stay in the black year after year. (And not by counting SS and Medicare surpluses as part of the general revenue, either.)

That in itself should shore up the bond market and the dollar as a result. And it makes a lot more sense than choking the goose that lays the golden eggs.

It would be too big a shock to have his tax cuts taken from him all at once. If he had his druthers, their phaseout would take decades.
