Zogby Poll:Clinton Slips Against GOPers

General election match-ups show the New York Senator would lose against every top Republican

UTICA, New York – A new Zogby Interactive survey shows Democrat Hillary Clinton of New York would lose to every one of the top five Republican presidential contenders, representing a reversal of fortune for the national Democratic front–runner who had led against all prospective GOP opponents earlier this year.

Poll: Hillary Would Lose To All Major Republican Candidates, Including Huckabee

McCain seems to do the best, though they all beat her.
A coblogger (probably Dave in Texas) posted this in the sidebar, but RobG just reminded me. Seems big enough to note on the main page.

Democrat Hillary Clinton would lose to all major Republican White House candidates, according to a hypothetical election matchup poll Monday, reversing her months of dominance over potential 2008 challengers.

The Zogby International poll was the latest sign that withering attacks on the former first lady were chipping away at her opinion poll leads just 38 days before the Iowa caucuses, the first party nominating contests.

In the new survey, Clinton trailed Senator John McCain 42 percent to 38 percent, former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani by 43 percent to 40 percent and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney by 43 percent to 40 percent.

She also lagged behind former Arkansas Republican governor Mike Huckabee by 44 to 39 percent, and former Senator Fred Thompson by 44 to 40 percent in hypothetical general election matchups.

Clinton's top Democratic challengers Barack Obama and John Edwards however would still beat their hypothetical Republican rivals in potential 2008 contests.

In July, Clinton held a five point lead in the same poll over Giuliani, edged out McCain by two points and had a clear lead over other contenders.

A Rasmussen poll last week had Clinton also falling behind Giuliani in a hypothetical matchup of the November 2008 general election, and narrowly beaten by McCain.

InEVITAble? Let us hope so, at least as regards the Democratic nomination.

LOLOL, you could not stop from posting Rasmussen when he was polling that Kerry was in the lead or gaining. You posted Rasmussen polls every week and Zogby too. They were your Bible.

LIAR. RASMUSSEN does daily tracking polls. Kerry gained one point yesterday to put them in a tie, 47-47%. All three top polls this week have shown an absolutely tie. The GOP convention is a very angry partisan convention with a lot of wildly inaccurate and dishonest attacks on Kerry, plus some of Kerry's best friends speaking, moderates who are out of touch with today's far rightwing GOP. Yes the righwingers have thrown some big bombs of BS that made a lot of noise, but they're not discussing issues people care about. In fact they're about 90% negative attacks and empty rhetoric. It may be that this actually costs Bush support. Plus, the SmearVets have started turning against Bush in the polls. The backlash I mean. People are just disgusted by the negative lies and divisive politics. It's not what they want to hear.
