Globalization produces dislocation and if you are one of the folks dislocated, there is some suffering involved. Rich countries cannot compete for low pay jobs with poor countries unless they are subsidized and much higher prices are deemed acceptable by the rest of the people. And no one, not even dislocated workers, perhaps making less than at manufacturing jobs, would accept this. Same dudes dislocated are buying the very goods at walmart that were made by cheaper wage employees. So what you lose in salary in some industries is made up by cheap imports and if one is adept at adapting, you end up better off.
I had a family business and we manufactured mens suits locally. If we were still in business what was our $100 suit wholesale would be about $400 today and quality wise it would be competing with suits that you could buy at the Mens Whorehouse at $200 retail. My suit would have retailed there at $800 today. So Scott, before you buy this bunk, you should think whether you want to pay $800 for your $200 suit.
