I am thinking europeans own US treasuries. I am thinking all were bought when dollar was stronger and some when dollar was much stronger. Euros earn the yield and when they come do, voila they get 75 cents back, not a dollar. The quarter is their iraq war tax OR if you prefer the US strategic defense of europe tax. US can do one or the other on its own dime but not both and we will not tax and destroy you Mike or raise interest rates and kill the worlds growth engine.
So the euros choice is to take the hit or not buy treasuries. If they dont buy treasuries and put the hurt on the US, we will use the money that we spend to defend them or being world cop to help our new critical domestic situation.
With china same idea but different dynamics because china knows the typical euro family of 2 1/2 people cant outspend even the walmart shopper in the US. In europe its the case of the euros fiddling with their socialist system while US workers are busting it. I will miss tuscany because i wont pay $10 for a hershey bar but the US is larger than western europe and there is plenty to see here if you can afford that damn arab gas. BTW, same argument propels UAE to buy citishares.

Market action looks good today particularly overcoming the horrific confidence numbers in the morning. If this indeed turns out to be the first day of the winter rally, that would be a good thing.
