"Theres a $45-trillion gap.." That's because this silly woman is counting Medicare and Medicaid WITH SS, both of which DO have serious problems. Fix those first. The first step would be to shitcan Bush's dumb, pharmaceutical company-friendly drug benefit that pays RETAIL for drugs and start over.

Just dealing with the Social Security deficit would require a 4.5 percentage point increase in payroll taxes, the authors say. Such an increase would take the combined Social Security tax to nearly 17%. (Currently Social Security takes 6.2% of workers checks while employers contribute another 6.2%, for a total of 12.4%.) Wow...and that's before we talk about extending the tax to higher income limits. This is a future liability, while the current ACTUAL debt of $9 Trillion, in today's money, seems to be perfectly ok with you, particularly if it keeps a few lousy dollars in your pocket...yet you claim to be concerned about my children. Although you may not feel you can, Americans have been taxed at MUCH higher rates than today, and PROSPERED. Your wife may have to quit drinking Fiji Water.
