The GOP is not going to win the White House in 2008, period.
That is because none of the main candidates but Huckabee are distinguishing themselves by parting ways with Bush-Cheney. And Huckabee is a Baptist minister so he can't win a general election. People have had far too much of the religious right and all their extremism and hypocrisy.

Instead, GOP candidates are competing to see who can move even farther to the right and make even bigger mistakes for our country. While the GOP candidate should receive at least 40% of the vote, don't count on much more than that, and the ability to steal Ohio and Florida are no longer there for them.

I predict the race will be 55-45 if Hillary is nominated and an even bigger margin of victory if Obama or Edwards is nominated. So it won't be a complete landslide, but victory is pretty much certain.

Remember too that the Bush recession and all the financial damage going on now has just begun in 2007. By this time next year when people vote, the damage to average Americans and the 10+ trillion in Bush deficits will be very apparent and no one will buy the old "tax cuts solve everything" mantra of the GOP. People will also want the Bushie industries like big oil and HMO's regulated. Plus, Democrats are only going to raise taxes on those making over $200,000 a year so the "democrats will tax you" message won't hold much sway. Also the cost of the Iraq debacle will be even worse a year from now, regardless of what happens over there. The tab will be 1.5 trillion, which is about $40,000 per US household. The GOP will take the blame for that, especially Rudy and McCain who always talk about what a great thing the Iraq quagmire is. But neither of those two will be nominated. It will be Romney, with a big challenge by Huckabee. And Romney may be attractive looking, but he's the biggest phoniest flipflopper we have ever seen.
