Yep that's it....an amazing show (and story). I found it amazing how he could build that cabin and everything out of a handsaw and just basic tools. I wish I could get him to fix my fence;-)

Did you see the ranking on Amazon for that book? Wow! I would kill (not really) to get my book ranked like that.

It's kind of sad too....I think he lived there alone until he died. To each his own I reckon but there is an old gospel song that I think says it best "Theres nothing in this whole wide world that worse than being alone".

Proenneke's video is on our local PBS station right now. What an enjoyable film. He certainly makes living in the wild seem easier than it is - the mark of true skill and knowledge. He just said that freeze-up had come but inside his cabin it was a toasty 40 degrees. Of course, it was 50 degrees below outside - a difference of 90 degrees. The last time my home was 40 degrees it was because the natural gas line had gone bad in the winter on a freezing, windy day. I was miserable until it was fixed.
