He didn't leave office with double digit unemployment and inflation like Carter did. I see. Like Tim, you don't see a connection between the deficit and the economy. Out of curiousity, why do you think the dollar is falling? The deficit increased during the Reagan years and we had an economic recovery. We had a recovery in the 1990s under Clinton and the deficit and the debt both decreased. Our debt levels are smaller as a % of GDP than most major industrial countries. Not true: According to the CIA, public debt as a percent of GDP for the US is 65%; only Germany exceeds that number at 67%[their debt results from reunification]; France comes close at 64%. However, most other industrial nations are below 50% with Denmark coming in at 30%; the UK at 42%; Sweden at 48%; Spain at 40%. cia.gov As for the dollar, thats more related to the trade deficit. Don't confuse the two just because of the deficit word. I am not confusing them at all. We had a trade deficit under Clinton, and yet, the dollar was much stronger. You guys are feeding yourself a lot of BS. The dollar is weak because our economy stinks and US debt has nearly doubled since 2000 under the Bush. Last summer was one of the worst in terms of on time planes in the history of US aviation. Why? Our air traffic control uses antiquated equipment and is short on personnel which limits the number of planes that can be in the air and the number that can land at any given time. The system is overtaxed....... Oh for God's sake. This is silly. Its silly? Tell the people on planes who have to endure third world conditions when they fly. Your defense of Reagan is what's silly. you know like bridges that cross the Mississippi River in MPLS. Maybe the liberals in MN divert too much to their mass transit system. Nice try but no. The feds have cut back due to the war effort and tax cuts......and it shows.
